Charities
The Hero team will be working hard before the race to raise funds for the designated charities. All proceeds will be donated to the charities. The designated charities are very worthwhile causes that the team feels strongly about supporting.
What would you say to the parents of a child who is expected to die in childhood?
If you could offer only two words of comfort, try these -"Tŷ Hafan"
When a diagnosis is given which offers no hope, or when treatment is abandoned, families often feel isolated, alone and afraid in their grief. Many children's conditions deteriorate slowly, and this puts an enormous strain on family life. Holidays, family activities and outings are denied; parents rarely have a normal mealtime, a full night's sleep or time to themselves. Healthy brothers and sisters inevitably feel left out, as attention focuses on the sick child.
Tŷ Hafan provides respite, palliative and end of life care for children who suffer from conditions which mean that they will not reach adulthood. We believe in making the most of these short but precious lives.
The Royal National Lifeboat Institution www.rnli.org.uk
The Royal National Lifeboat Institution is a registered charity that saves lives at sea. It provides the 24-hour on-call service to cover search and rescue requirements out to 100 nautical miles from the coast of the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland and a seasonal lifeguard service on appropriate beaches in the south and south west of England. The RNLI is independent from Government and continues to rely on voluntary contributions and legacies for its income.
The RNLI has a long and proud history. Since it was founded in 1824, as the National Institution for the Preservation of Life from Shipwreck, there have been countless examples of courage, selflessness and dedication – qualities still shown by the volunteer crew members, shore helpers and fundraisers of the RNLI today. In 1891, the RNLI became the first charity to organise a street collection, marking the beginning of a strong fundraising tradition.
